Find the exact legal name
Locate the company named in your client agreement. A brand may have several licences attached to different companies, and the licence displayed most prominently may not apply to your account. Record the legal name, registration number and registered address.
Open the regulator register independently
Use the regulator’s own website. Match the firm name, permissions, web domain and contact details. Clone firms can copy a legitimate registration number, so matching the number alone is insufficient. If you need to contact the firm to verify an approach, use the details in the register.
Check what the permission covers
Authorisation for one activity does not necessarily cover another product or residents of every country. Check warnings, restrictions and the client category in your agreement. Keep dated evidence of what you found and check again if your account is moved to another entity.
