Test the assumptions

A backtest depends on data quality, spread assumptions and the treatment of execution. A strategy that looks attractive without commission, slippage or financing may behave differently in a live account. Keep in-sample development separate from out-of-sample evaluation.

Check permissions and failure modes

Confirm that the broker or prop programme permits your strategy. Read restrictions on latency arbitrage, copying and shared systems. Know how to stop the strategy, limit exposure and respond when the connection or data feed fails.

Keep operational control

Record the version of the strategy, settings and account permissions. Monitor open exposure and unexpected orders. Automation performs instructions; it does not establish that the strategy is profitable or appropriate for the account.
